Women & Children's Free Restaurant & Community Kitchen (WCFR) provides a vital safety net that fills nutritional gaps for women and children in need while fostering dignity and respect, both within our restaurant and in the community.
We planned to serve 100,000 meals in 2020, but the needs of our community quickly changed at the onset of the pandemic. We have served over 3.8 million meals since the onset of the pandemic through curbside services and partnerships with other nonprofit organizations. We serve our community with dignity and compassion, guided by the belief that everyone deserves good nutrition.
Women & Children's Free Restaurant & Community Kitchen (WCFR) offers two core programs during the pandemic. Meal and Grocery Distribution, which provides free nutritious scratch-made meals, produce, dairy, proteins, and non-perishable items through contact-less curbside distribution, and Nutrition-to-Go (NTG), which distributes free, nutritious meals in collaboration with other community organizations. 75% of our NTG meals are consumed at homeless shelters, COVID isolation units, and housing programs.
Our volunteers assist in various ways. Kitchen assistants, dishwashers, meal/grocery distributors, food packagers, and pick-up and delivery drivers are key positions. We have a well-established volunteer program with an incredible group of volunteers who support our mission and help make our work possible.
