About

ASWSU supports a variety of multicultural student-led conferences aimed at empowering high school student through multicultural leadership and awareness, while developing a network for students achieving higher education. These conferences include the following: SHAPING: Shaping High School Asian Pacific Islanders for the Next Generation (SHAPING) is a leadership conference that specifically targets junior and senior high school level students of Asian-American/Pacific Islander descent. This annual event on the Pullman campus intends to foster and address the needs of higher education among the Asian-American/Pacific Islander community while fostering leadership development for current Washington State University Students. CASHE: The annual CASHE (Children of Aztlán Sharing Higher Education) Conference provides Chicano/a, Latino/a youth in the state the opportunity to empower themselves through leadership development and cultural awareness workshops and assists in the retention and enhanced leadership development of current Chicano/a, Latino/a college students serving as conference facilitators and workshop presenters. VIBES: The mission of V.I.B.E.S. Conference is to bring 100+ motivated young African American high school students (sophomore/junior status preferred) to the campus of Washington State University. The purpose of which is to develop a culture of leadership through strong educational objectives, knowledge of self and community, as well as to empower them with the belief they can attain their goals and objectives. Pah-Loots-Pu Pow Wow: The Pah-Loots-Pu Pow Wow is a celebration honoring those who have aided the WSU Native students. In addition, the Pow Wow promotes cultural unity and an understanding of native music, dance, and the Pow Wow's more traditional ceremonial components.
